Our newly elected Youth Council met face-to-face for the first time in March.

The council members travelled from all over the country, from Kaitaia to Invercargill, to meet with Chief Executive Officer Sandra Budd and Board Chairman Rick Hoskin to establish their goals and expectations for the year.

Goals include:

·         Connecting with youth at a local level.

·         Improve communication with young members of the Blind Foundation.

·         Create easier access to relevant information.

·         Support EPIC youth event.

Council member Dakota Kingi, from Kaitaia, says it was a great process to be a part of.

“As a visually impaired person, I feel this Youth Council has a mixture of supportive, caring and understanding young people who share a desire to connect and engage other youth.”

Working alongside staff and board members, the Youth Council wants to connect with young Blind Foundation clients, aged 15 – 30, and empower them to lead a life without limits.

The Council play a role in informing youth about topics of interest, and seeking feedback and perspectives from young members of the Blind Foundation, in order to promote a youth voice and enable youth to build a community.

Get involved: If you’re a Blind Foundation member aged between 15-30, email blindfoundationyouth@gmail.com or join the EPIC Youth Facebook group.
