A young girl and her guide dogHi, my name’s Stevi. I’ve been a member of the Blind Foundation since I was about six months old. I’m 19 now so it’s been a long time.

Halo is my first guide dog. We’ve been together for just over a year. Having a guide dog means everything to me. It’s something very special. Wherever I go, I now feel like I have a friend with me. She always knows exactly what I’m thinking.

Halo’s personality is very matched to mine. We both love to do outdoor things like walking, and we’re both fast walkers. Her favourite food is carrot; she has a carrot every day.

Before Halo, I couldn’t go anywhere because I didn’t have the confidence. I felt very isolated.

But now Halo goes everywhere with me. I can get myself wherever I want to go and do whatever I want to do by myself. She gives me so much more independence. With Halo by my side I have the motivation to finish school, finish uni, and go out and meet people.

Thanks to Halo, I feel more confident – I can live the life that I choose.
