Membership opportunities

If you’d like to get involved in the Blind Foundation, there are two ways that you can help shape the organisation.   You can find out all you need to know about being a governing or associate member here – including how to apply.

Governing members

All people registered with the Blind Foundation can take part in shaping the direction of the Blind Foundation through its governance.  Parents and guardians of children who are registered can also become governing members.

Governing members can elect the Board of Directors, attend annual and special meetings and consult on important documents such as the strategic plan. If you’d like to become a governing member, simply call 0800 24 33 33 or email generalenquiries@blindfoundation.org.nz and let our team know.

Associate members

Family, relations and friends of people registered with the Blind Foundation can become involved in the organisation as associate members. This opportunity is open to volunteers and supporters too.

People wishing to use the digital library service who are not clients can also register as associate members.

Associate members can nominate a person as a candidate for election to the Board of Directors, and vote for that seat’s candidates. The other Directors are elected by our membership.

Associate members can also:

  • take part in stakeholder consultations.
  • participate in their local Community Support Group.
  • become a volunteer to assist people who are blind or have low vision in the community.
  • support fundraising initiatives, including appeals.

Associate members are not eligible for Blind Foundation services.
