BookLink is our online lending and reading service. It offers independent access to the Blind Foundation Library’s digital collections, including:
- New Zealand and international audio books
- New Zealand and international audio magazines
- Community, regional and national text newspapers
You can access the BookLink service directly in your web browser, through the BookLink Web portal.
This site lets you search in the audio collections, browse selected magazines and newspapers, and edit your profile to receive recommendations for further reading. Links to external sites are also featured, including subscription news and magazine services and New Zealand streaming radio stations.
A special Youth portal is available for younger readers, offering children’s and young adults audio books in the same format. BookLink Youth also lets Youth Library members request print items from the Youth Library collection, including kits, large print, and electronic formats.
BookLink is also available as an app for use with mobile devices, such as smart phones and tablets. The BookLink app for Apple devices (iOS) can be downloaded from the New Zealand App Store, and BookLink for Android is available from the Google Play Store within New Zealand.
To access BookLink, you need to be a Blind Foundation Library member, or have a print disability. Registered Blind Foundation clients and New Zealand citizens/residents with a print disability are eligible to join. For more information, visit ‘Accessing our Library’ or call us on 0800 24 33 33.
How to register for BookLink
Existing Blind Foundation Library members can call 0800 24 33 33 or email email@example.com to register.
The BookLink app is currently supported by iOS version 8.2 and above, or Android version 6.0 and above.
Potential issues in iOS 12.0 October 2018
The most recent update to iOS 12 can potentially cause visual display issues in the BookLink app v2.4. If you are not using VoiceOver with BookLink on your Apple device, we recommend delaying the software update to your operating system beyond version 11.4, until this issue is resolved.
The Blind Foundation BookLink application does not collect or transmit any user’s personal information, with the exception of technical information included in HTTP requests (such as the IP address). No personal information is used, stored, secured or disclosed by services this application works with. If you would like to report any violations of this policy, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
