Our intrepid team of adventurers and their support crew will be travelling down the North Island from Mt Maunganui to Wellington. Here are the details of their seven epic days.

Wednesday 1 November

Arriving from all corners of New Zealand, the team will gather together for a 10am start at Mt Maunganui and hike to the summit for an official Karakia and welcome.

Next, they’ll return to the base of Mt Maunganui and take up Waka ama to paddle to the Waimarino Adventure Park over the afternoon. The team will stay in Papamoa that night.

Thursday 2 November

Today is marathon day! Starting from Papamoa beach, the crew will run towards the Mount, come back to Papamoa and then along the back roads to eventually make it to Maketu.

As a site of historical significance where the Arawa waka canoe came ashore with some of the first human settlers in Aotearoa over 800 years ago, everyone will take a moment to reflect in Maketu before heading to Rotorua. They will receive a Powhiri welcome onto the Tunohopu Marae, where they will spend the night.

Friday 3 November

Hopping on tandem cycles, the 7 Day Challenge crew will ride 80km from Rotorua to Taupo. They will travel through Rotorua Te Ara Ahi, and then follow the route of the 100km flyer cycle race before being rewarding with a soak in Taupo’s Hot pools. On Friday evening the crew will go to Adventure Lodge in National Park, ready for Saturday’s adventure.

Saturday 4 November

It will be an early start for everyone today, as they get on their way at 7am to hike up to the summit of Mt Tongariro. A full day out, they will again be staying at the Adventure Lodge on Saturday night.

Sunday 5 November

On Sunday the crew head to Whakapapa River for some adrenalin-inducing white water rafting. Next, they head to Waikanae and take up residence by the Waikanae River, on the Te Araroa trail – their starting point for the next challenge.

Monday 6 November

Putting on their running shoes again, today they will track 21km of beautiful scenery along the Kapiti Coast Walkway. Keeping mostly to the beach, they will end up in Paekakariki where they will stay the night.

Tuesday 7 November

On their final day, the crew embark on a mystery adventure race – with instructions for their next challenge texted to them as they complete them. At the end, they will be awarded with medals in Wellington – but where?
