Audio described performance at Circa Theatre

Wellington

Sunday, 8 April 2018, 2:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Circa Theatre and Te Papa are excited to present an Audio Described afternoon on Sunday 8th April.

Te Papa will host an Audio described Art Tour at 2.30pm focusing on Bones, Stones and Beginnings. Following Circa Theatre will present a touch tour at 3.45pm and an audio described performance of our newest thriller, premiering in New Zealand for the first time, Switzerland by Joanna Murray-Smith at 4.30pm.

We are offering a special price of $38 to all members and guests of Blind Citizens New Zealand and the Blind Foundation.

Audio description is a narrated commentary for blind and low vision patrons that describes what’s happening on stage in between the dialogue or songs: for example, new scenes, settings, costume, body language, facial expression, movements across the stage and sight gags. An audio describer talks into a microphone to provide the commentary. This is transmitted to wireless receivers and headsets worn by the audience members. It does not affect hearing members of the audience.

Switzerland

Celebrated crime writer, Patricia Highsmith is living hidden away in the Swiss Alps and refusing to contact her publishers who are urging her to write another in the best-selling Ripley series. A mysterious young man appears unannounced.  Will her love of fictional murders become a dangerous reality?  What first appears to be a standard cat-and-mouse game soon becomes a dance to the death. Who is the cat and who is the mouse? And…who will make it out of Switzerland alive.

A sharp, gripping and sometimes very witty two-hander exploring the final chapter in the life of Patricia Highsmith. (The Talented Mr. Ripley, Strangers on a Train, Carol)

The Te Papa Tour begins at 2.30pm. The touch tour begins at 3.45pm and the audio described performance at 4.30pm.
