Auckland: Royal New Zealand Ballet ‘Romeo and Juliet’ audio-described performance
Auckland Live and the Royal New Zealand Ballet are delighted to present an audio described performance of Romeo + Juliet for our blind and visually impaired patrons.
This performance features trained audio describers who will translate the performance in real-time, for you to hear through an ear-piece.
A complimentary touch tour will also be held prior to the show where patrons can walk through the set, touch set pieces, feel costume fabrics, handle key props and learn about the production. The touch tour will be followed by an introduction to ballet terminology from RNZB dance educator Pagan Dorgan.
There are seats reserved for Audio Described patrons. Tickets for these seats range from $38.00 to $48.00 with children’s tickets $25 (plus service fees) and one companion ticket is available at no cost if required. Guide dogs are welcome.
About Romeo + Juliet
Choreographer Francesco Ventriglia creates a new version of the world’s greatest love story, especially for the Royal New Zealand Ballet, the company’s first new production of Romeo and Juliet since 2003.
Inspired by Franco Zeffirelli’s classic 1968 film, this will be a hot-blooded, passionate re-telling of Shakespeare’s play, which is sure to resonate with lovers of dance, drama and pure romance. Academy Award-winning designer James Acheson (The Last Emperor, Dangerous Liaisons and Restoration) will bring Renaissance Verona to life in all its vitality and splendour, from the blazing battles of the Capulets and Montagues to the lovers’ heart-breaking youth and beauty.
Prokofiev’s instantly recognisable score will be performed live by the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra.
